Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) ended the first half of the year on a high note with a double-digit growth of 17.8% year-over-year. From January to June, MMPC sold a total of 25,066 vehicles compared to the 21,282 units sold during the same period last year. With these figures, the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturer Association (TMA) each reported that MMPC continues to be one of the dominant brands in the automotive industry with its 23.0% market share.

MMPC’s June 2014 saw the company’s highest monthly sales figures at 4,535 units, beating out the 4,410 vehicles sold last February. This was a 10.1% growth over May sales of 4,120 units. Leading these sales were Passenger Cars (PC) and Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV) with growths of 19.6% and 8.8% from May to June respectively. 3,504 LCVs were sold last month, 1,584 of which were Montero Sport units making the model the bestselling midsize Sports Utility Vehicle and the number one LCV in the Philippines. Meanwhile, Adventure and Strada models sold 664 and 316 units respectively.

Mitsubishi also reported that locally manufactured Adventure and L300 models are still two of the top choices for small and medium scale businesses. Mirage and Mirage G4s were also well received by customers looking for a fuel-efficient and practical compact car.

These impressive numbers lead MMPC to believe that sales will continue to increase as the year runs on. This belief is supported by CAMPI’s updated total industry sales forecast of 250,000 units, 20,000 more than the original announcement.

“Given our remarkable and on-track performance for the first semester, it is definite that we will surpass last year’s total sales of 43,176 units.   Our goal is to sell more than 50,000 units this year in order to keep at least 20% market share”, MMPC Vice President for Marketing Services Mr. Froilan Dytianquin said.
